Last night, I hosted a Dove #SelfEsteemProject chat in partnership with College Fashionista. Above are some of the lovely DePaul students who joined in on the discussion. Dove believes in the power of mentorship to encourage body positivity and build self-esteem. During our chat, we focused on the beauty-related anxieties that are caused by social media.
It’s important to realize that social media is not reality. Everyone experiences hardships in their everyday lives that aren’t displayed online.
How to overcome struggles with low self-esteem?
- Let go of negativity. People who are very self critical typically have very low self-esteem.
- Before you go to bed every night, write down a couple of things that you’re thankful for or proud of. Your brain prioritizes the last thing you’re thinking about before you go to sleep as most important. You want to subconsciously prioritize positive thoughts.
- Spend less time on social media and more time participating in real life, working towards your goals (unless, like me, your goal is to be a professional blogger ;).
