This June, I’ll be graduating from DePaul University with a Bachelor’s in Business Management. As is the typical college student response, I’m very ready to be done, but also nervous for the uncertainty ahead.
I’ve kept my blog content mostly fashion/beauty-related, so I’m going to use this opportunity to share a little bit about what I’ve been doing with my life for the past few years. Here it goes…
I moved to Chicago for school four years ago. I’m from California, but I absolutely love it here and plan on staying after graduation. In addition to being a full-time student, I also spend my days hustling to grow my blogging business and doing freelance social media work. Also, I try to get out of my apartment/home office and go to as many blogging and networking events as possible. Describing my days as busy is an understatement. However, I love what I do so it doesn’t bother me.
I have to carefully manage my time each and every day so that I can meet deadlines, finish homework, and then have time to relax on the weekends. How do I stay productive? The simple answer is a mix of planning and lots of coffee from Dunkin Donuts.
Here are my top tips for time management:
- Get a real planner. I use my phone’s calendar as well, but writing everything down in a physical planner really helps me. Transferring the massive to-do list in my head on to paper is a major stress reliever. Plus, there are so many cute ones available!
- Split up big tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. If I have one big project due at the end of the week (whether it’s for school or blogging), I like to spend just one to two hours on it each day.
- Take breaks. After I’ve been productive for a couple of hours, I stretch my legs by walking to the Dunkin Donuts location right down the street or getting in a quick work out. Dunkin’s limited edition Coconut Creme Pie and Butter Pecan iced coffee flavors are a delicious pick-me-up.
Top and Blazer: Topshop | Pants: Express (also in solid colors) | Coffee: Dunkin Donuts – yum!
Recently, job hunting is something else that has been added to my plate. I’ve been enjoying the fashion part of interviewing. I didn’t have any professional clothes, so I went shopping to find some stylish options. There’s no reason that work clothes should be boring. I want my personality and creative mindset to show through my clothes.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post!
