Fall can be a challenging season for footwear. It feels wrong to wear sandals or open-toed shoes, but is it too soon for boots? My favorite shoes to wear for fall are loafers and flats. And to answer the question — boots are totally appropriate, especially ankle booties. However, if it’s not cold enough yet for boots, loafers are the perfect solution. Chicago weather has trouble making up its mind during fall, so I don’t want to be too warm in boots.
I love backless loafers (mules) because they seem to pair well with everything. They dress up a casual jeans look or dress down a fancy dress making it appropriate for day (i.e. the outfit in this post). Mules are comfy and appropriate for the office, but still super stylish. I had a pair of silver ones that I wore out after wearing them nonstop for more than a year. You can see them in this outfit post from summer 2016 – please ignore my haircut. Clearly, it was time to get a new pair. I decided on this classic beige suede style by Dolce Vita. The best part — they’re on sale for $70, but look far more expensive. Always the goal, right?
I’ve linked more of my favorite affordable pairs at the end of this post.
This dress is one of my favorite rentals to date from Rent the Runway. I wore it to PoshFest and got nonstop compliments! I changed into heels to go to the evening fashion show. (More on that event here.) Versatile dresses are the best.
I’ve already worn my new mules countless times since purchasing them a month or so ago. I’m so happy to have a replacement for my worn-out ones from last year. What’s your go-to shoe during this season?
